What are the most creative startup marketing campaigns? by Rajnish Prajapat
In the initial days of my first startup “OoPadai - India’s first mentoring Platform”, we never had money to spend on marketing Campaign.
I was also a college student and I saw that most of the students run behind the certificates of internships so that they can write in the resume.
It was a day in March 2015 when Jee Mains exam was near to the date and I figured out that Intershala is a platform where I can hire interns for my startup.
We posted an Unpaid Internship there for “Marketing Interns”, firstly we were looking for 5–6 interns but more than 200 students registered for the internship.
We went through all the applications and find out that all students were from 40+ cities across India.
One of my cofounders said, “Rajnish, we can make our reach in 40 cities with the help of interns”.
I was convinced.
So we decided to hire all of them because the Internship was unpaid and decided to distribute the pamphlets outside the centres of jee mains.
We never wanted to see our pamphlets on the road that’s why we targeted parents who were sitting outside of centres instead of students because parents are more conscious than students and we were taking their email I’ds and mobile numbers before giving them the pamphlets.
We trained every intern to do the same.
We covered more 120 centres across 40 cities.
The result of this Marketing campaign was hilarious, More than 5000 students registered on the website in one day just after the exam.
After two days, Website broked down due to high traffic because our developers were also interns.
In that April month, Our acquired more than 25,000 users.
That marketing Campaign costed us around Rs. 3000 only for pamphlets.
we distributed certificates to all interns and They were happy.
And Yes, Of course. We were extremely happy.
