DK-The Untold Story -by Suyash Baranwal

This is really inspirational write-up about the personal and professional life struggles and fightbacks of the Indian Cricketer Dinesh Karthik.
He is the hero for the entire country today. "Divine Intervention" is the name people are giving to his miraculous inning (unbeaten 29 of 8) that ensured that India registered their most thrilling win of decade and seal the Nidahas Trophy 2018. But hold on, do you know that how life has been for Dinesh Kartik till today? Well, if you want a synonym of "fighter", you can say DK can be one, if you ask for an alternative definition of terms like "calm" and "patient", I will just tell you to to define DK as a person. Here are some facts about him :
1. Dinesh Karthik made his international debut in 2004 (even before the country knew about MS Dhoni's existence in our country). So apparently, he is by far the most senior cricketer in the Indian team right now. Still you will find him running with water bottle in hands (as a 12th man) to quench the thirst of 17-18 year old youngsters in the team today. Humble enough right?
2. India's first ever T20 international win was in 2007 against South Africa by 2 wickets and Dinesh Karthik was Man of the Match in that game. Still he struggled to be in the side, has been in and out of the side even till today thanks to our then captain and selectors.
3. While Dhoni kept failing with the bat for India in the early years of this decade(and till today), Kartik kept on winning games for his teams in IPL and Ranji Trophy and proving his class. He also played handy cameos(also a few match winning innings) when given to play a game in a dead series against Zimbabwe or West Indies in which our captain cool was “rested”.
4. This event of his life was really big and a real test of his professional, personal and emotional character. Karthik's wife (now Nikita Vijay) cheated on him with his then best friend Murali Vijay. A love triangle is something which can disturb the life's of the people involved in this triangle. He lost his childhood love to his best friend, had to divorce her. He was shattered and dejected. Anyone would really lose hope of living after what all transpired in his life. But he didn't give up. His new wife Deepika Pallikal sarcastically calls him "the second best sportsman in the house". Anyone will go into deep depression or existential crisis after all this. But he kept playing. He focused on cricket.
5. Today when finally Dhoni is rested and he is the only wicket keeper batsman in the side, our new captain Mr. Rohit Sharma doesn't even consider him as good as extremely unexperienced cricketers like Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar and he is sent below them in the batting order. Another reason big enough for any self centred experienced cricketer to get depressed and sad. But again, he fights. He scores at 200+ strike rate on every opportunity he gets.
And boy, today God really proved the statement "God helps those who help themselves". He was once again brutally under-rated and insulted and sent after Vijay Shankar(who was holding bat for the first time in international cricket) with 34 to get in 2 overs. None other than him believed that we can still pull it off. And tell you what, it took DK only 8 balls to take away the Man of the Match award and seal the Nidahas trophy for India. And finally outcame Ravi Shastri and the entire team hugging and kissing him. To be honest, destiny had written a defeat for India but a win for Kartik and that is exactly what happened, Karthik's fruits of hardwork deserved to be rewarded, and therefore Karthik won us the game.
Well, I hope finally after 14 years of being rejected, cheated, deprived, challenged and underrated this guy will finally get some respect in the side, and will finally get the opportunity to prove that he is indeed a 'legendary Indian wicket keeper batsman'. There is no exaggeration in this article, I've just lised facts. I agree that this is indeed a long post, but think about it, if we can devote 3 hours to a movie made on MS Dhoni, we can atleast give a read to this article on the "Young Iron Man of Indian cricket" Dinesh Karthik and hence the name "DK : The Untold Story." He deserves every bit of the praise he earned today.
